Catarina Oliveira is a Portuguese visual artist working across analog practices in film, photography, and literature.
Her work examines themes of domesticity, the feminine, and the often invisible gestures of everyday life. -
She holds a BA in Fine Arts – Multimedia from the University of Porto and studied at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. She completed postgraduate studies in Communication Sciences – Cinema and Television at NOVA University Lisbon and in Fiction Writing at Universidade Lusófona. She also attended the Next Wave Programme at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB) and the Short Film Screenwriting course at Sundance Collab.
Her work has been shown in exhibitions and residencies in Portugal and abroad, including PD929 (Fundação Manuel António da Mota) and Breviário do Brasil (Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade, São Paulo). Within the independent film sector, in Portugal, she has collaborated with festivals and worked as Head of Distribution at Leopardo Filmes. In Berlin, she has worked with The Match Factory/MUBI in Legal and Business Affairs and Marketing & Communications, in attendance and collaboration with international festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Toronto, Locarno and Tokyo Film Festival.
In 2025, she received the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Artistic Creation Grant to develop her first short film, focusing on the familial space and the poetics of the everyday — recurring themes in her artistic practice.
